Guide to Green Pennsylvania Businesses and Industries

armstrong

The Center for Sustainability, in collaboration with Penn TAP (Pennsylvania Technology Assistance Program) is creating an outreach resource to help consumers, the business and academic community identify Pennsylvania-based products and services that contribute towards the sustainable growth of our state's economy.

When most of us think about reducing our carbon emissions, or our environmental impact,
we usually think about the fuel that we use for our own transportation, or to heat and cool our homes.
Petroleum is also used to generate electricity, heat water, and bring products to market. But many common product purchasing decisions can also help reduce fossil fuel consumption, and when coupled with fuel, design and behavioral lifestyle changes, can make a big difference.

By selecting environmentally friendly products and services, you can reduce or eliminate not just the amount of fossil fuels consumed, but also the volume of waste, fresh water, or toxic material released into the environment, reducing your own environmental impact on the earth.

Eco-purchasing can help "green" your homes, offices, projects, businesses or events. By creating a guide specific to Pennsylvania-based products and services, the Center and Penn TAP hope to support the market for regional “green” products and services, workforce development opportunities, promote regional university-industry relationships, and help students identify environmentally responsible businesses to consider for future employment.

The Green Guide will be linked to Penn State Purchasing, the Penn State Institutes for Energy and the Environment, the Pennsylvania Green Builders Association, among other Pennsylvania environmental networks, organizations and databases.
