locate courses that address sustainability topics.
Sustainability Service Courses taught by CfS Faculty
AE 497H - AIHI Course Series – This three part course series engages students of all ages and disciplines at Penn State in the planning, design, and implementation of sustainable facilities and practices on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. (Riley)
ENGR 100 - Solar Racers First Year Seminar – Students learn the basics of solar energy systems and work with local middle-school students to build model solar cars for a race held annually on the Penn State Campus. (Lau)
ENDSG 497- Design-Build Solar: Honduras – Students are introduced to solar energy systems and the issues of energy in developing nations. During spring break, the student teams participate in the construction of a residential-scale solar array in Honduras in a partnership with a resident energy contractor. (Riley)
AE 597K - Green Building Methods Graduate Course – Students are familiarized with the LEED rating system for green buildings and sustainable construction practices. Students are challenged to perform a green building assessment for a local business, school, or non-profit organization.
AE 497G - Sustainability Leadership Projects – Students learn the concepts and technologies embedded in the MorningStar home. Students are then challenged to organize and provide public tours and events in the MorningStar home (Riley/Brown).
ENDSG 498 - Sustainable Design – Students are provided with a broad background in sustainable design principles and challenged to apply these principles in an actual design project (Lau).
